Moth Foils
Latest Moth foils- New straight tappering rudder lifting section.
The elliptical foils that I used for the first time in Garda (Europeans 2005), proved to be good, with technically less drag and more importantly a sexy look. My theory being the smaller the foil, the faster the boat can initially go, and so the earlier it can foil.
Rudder
Latest rudder profile and gantry set-up
Although most of 2006 was dedicated to the new Mistress Mark 3 hull we also wanted to complement it with a new rudder. In June 2006 we commissioned another set of rudder moulds to be milled. The new vertical section will produce less drag and will have less ventilation issues (a common problem with the speeds of the boat increasing all of the time), than the old section.
On the bottom of the vertical section we have put a straight tapering lifting foil. The idea behind straight tappering is so that the foil can be cut down in size to accommodate the different weights of sailors.
Alex Adams and Sam Pascoe will be using the new rudders at the Worlds in Horsens 2006.
All production of new rudders from July 2006 will be the new style of rudder.
Daggerboard
Small developments to the current daggerboard will be made after August 2006. The likelyhood is that the lifting section will remain as elliptical.
